Shiv Sena demanded restoration of OPS, concession to Sr citizens in Rly fare

Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) unit of Jammu and Kashmir has demanded implementation of Old Pension Scheme (OPS), restoration of concessions given to senior citizens in rail travel and simplification of formalities in old age pension scheme. In a statement issued to mercury times, while addressing the media persons at party office Jammu today state chief Manish Sahni said that youth are totally upset due to lack of employment while the elders are demanding OPS. He said that pension is a great security and support to the old age and elderly people and the Govt. did not desist from tinkering with this sensitive issue. He said that the new pension system has not been able to provide adequate financial and social security to the pensioners. Under this scheme, after retirement, the employees are getting only Rs. 1000 to Rs. 1500 per month which is a cruel joke in this era of inflation. The Shiv Sena Chief lamented that NPS does not even guarantee the minimum pension to the employees. He said that employees should be provided relief by implementing the old pension scheme in Jammu and Kashmir just like that in Punjab, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. Meanwhile, Sahni also demanded restoration of the concession previously given to senior citizens in Indian Railways fare. Sahni said that when the facility of free travel in the railways to MPs, former MPs and MLAs have been restored, then why should the country’s elders be made to keep lamenting for the lost exemption. Along with this Sahni demands to to simplify the formalities in the old age pension scheme.
Sahni said that pension has been stopped by many consumers for not submitting the documents. On this occasion Gen Secretaries Vikas Bakshi , GI Singh , Vice President Sanjeev Kohli, President Kamghar Raj Singh were present.
