Jammu, September 26:
A major accident occurred on Thursday during the construction of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway. The highway which was being built by the National Highway Authority in Vijaypur area of Samba district.
The construction of a bridge over the Devika river was underway and during the construction work, the soil caved in the pit dug for the pillar. During work, six workers got buried under it. Two of these workers died while four have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
As soon as the information about the accident was received, the district administration, NSDF and SDRF started the rescue operation.
During this rescue operation which lasted for about two hours. Four workers were taken out safely but machines had to be used to take out two workers. During this rescue operation which lasted till about four o’clock in the afternoon, all the six workers were taken out but the condition of two workers remained critical who later died.
The condition of the remaining four workers is said to be stable. They have been admitted to AIIMS Vijaypur for treatment.
The workers killed in the accident have been identified as Lal Singh son of Hukum Chand resident of Reasi Jammu and Shobin Kumar son of Rajesh Singh resident of Bihar. The injured have not been identified yet.
On the other hand, the police has started further investigation by registering a case of this accident in the concerned police station Samba. Till the time of writing the news, all the four injured workers were undergoing treatment in AIIMS Vijaypur.
