Retd ZEO assaulted to death, two others critically injured in Akhnoor

Akhnoor, November 17:

On Thursday, a retired Zonal Education Officer was attacked and killed with a sharp weapon in Khaur area of Jammu district over an old dispute. Two people including a woman were also seriously injured in this attack. Both the injured were referred to the Medical College Hospital Jammu from the local First Aid Centre. After the incident, there is an atmosphere of tension in the village. The police have registered a case in this regard and started investigating the matter. The attacker has been arrested from his house.
According to the information received so far, retired Zonal Education Officer Babu Ram was working on his farm on Thursday afternoon in Narayana village, which falls under Khaur block, about 55 km from Jammu city. Sources told mercury Times that a person from the village reached there with Ashok Kumar’s son Munshiram and attacked Babu Ram with sharped edge weapon. By the time Babu Ram could understand anything, he fell on the ground bleeding profusely. Sita Devi, wife of Janakraj, a woman from the village who came to save him, attacker also attacked her, due to which the woman was also seriously injured.
After that, Ashok Kumar unnecessarily attacked and injured Vineet Kumar’s son Pritam Chand, a shopkeeper standing on the roadside. According to the people of the village, the mental condition of the attacker is not good. The mind-boggling act of the assailant created an atmosphere of panic in the entire village. Police was informed about the incident. Meanwhile, retired ZEO Babu Ram, Sita Devi and Vineet Kumar who were bleeding profusely were rushed to the local hospital wherein doctors declared Babu Ram as brought dead. The remaining two were referred to GMC Jammu after giving first aid. The police immediately arrested the attacker Ashok Kumar from his house. A case is being registered in this matter and investigation is on.
