After the success of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The political activities have increased for Panchayat elections. In the 2018 Panchayat elections, NC, which is in power, boycotted the elections. In this, PDP, which is in opposition, also resorted to boycott. Although these elections were on a non-political level, the effect of political support was also clearly visible in them. Since this time in the assembly elections, NC has emerged as the largest party by winning the maximum 42 seats. In such a situation, there is a possibility of political turmoil between NC and BJP, Congress and PDP in the Panchayat elections.
In the nine phases of Panchayat elections in 2018, 83.5 percent votes were cast in Jammu division. While this percentage was only 44.4 in Kashmir division. A total of 74 percent voting took place in Jammu and Kashmir. After winning the assembly elections and assuming power, NC is also focusing on Jammu division along with Kashmir. In the assembly elections, NC did not get much success in the BJP stronghold areas of Jammu division.
Now the party is trying to make up for its loss in the Panchayat elections by reaching out to the people. On the other hand, BJP has put its full emphasis on the party’s membership campaign in view of the upcoming elections. Congress is preparing to make changes in the organization after the report of the fact-finding committee, so that the performance can be improved by bringing new faces to the fore in the Panchayat elections.
