Ramban, August 7:
A major security alert was issued in Ramban district on Friday morning. The incident took place when a suspicious Scorpio vehicle number JK02AK-1743 passed through the police security checkpoint in Chanderkot. It fled towards the Nashri area despite repeated attempts by the police to stop it.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place around 3:30 am when the Scorpio was going to Jammu from Srinagar. Policemen posted at the Chanderkot security checkpoint signalled the vehicle to stop, but the driver allegedly ignored the instructions and sped away.
Sources said the policemen fired three rounds to stop the fleeing vehicle, but it continued to move towards Nasri. After this, the district police, CRPF and army together launched a massive search operation.
Ramban Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Arun Gupta, who reached the spot to supervise the operation, said the suspected Scorpio was later seized near Dalvas.
