Jammu, February 10:
Jammu and Kashmir created history by defeating former champions Madhya Pradesh by 52 runs in the quarter-finals of the Ranji Trophy on Monday.
The Jammu and Kashmir team has made it to the semi-finals of the Ranji Trophy after 66 years. In the year 1960, the J&K team played the Ranji Trophy for the first time.
Since then, it has not been able to make it to the semi-finals. The team will play West Bengal in the semi-finals from February 15 to 19.
On the fourth day of the match on Monday, Madhya Pradesh needed 204 runs to win. Jammu and Kashmir took five wickets. Playing ahead of 85 runs for five wickets, Madhya Pradesh’s batsmen struggled but the entire team was reduced to 234 runs. Fast bowler Aqib Nabi, who was the hero of Jammu and Kashmir’s victory, dominated the entire match. After taking seven wickets in the first innings, he did not disappoint the team in the second innings and took five wickets for 70 runs in 24 overs. Abid Mushtaq took three wickets while Sunil Kumar and Yudhvir Singh took one wicket each.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha congratulated the team for the historic achievement in the Ranji Trophy.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also congratulated the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team for the historic win over Madhya Pradesh.
All the MLAs in the Assembly congratulated the Jammu and Kashmir team by patting the table on their achievement.
