Neither any glacier broke nor any lake burst in Chishoti Nala. The debris that came with 15 minutes of heavy rain about a kilometer above Chishoti was made so deadly by the steep slope of 450 meters. It was destroyed the entire village. The team of the Glaciology Division of the Northern Region, Lucknow has prepared the assessment after conducting survey.
The incident, which is considered to be the biggest disaster in J&K so far. It was initially considered to be the result of a cloudburst. Or a flood caused by the bursting of a lake formed by a glacier. But the Survey of India team has clarified through the evidence found during the field visit that it was the result of a debris flow accompanied by excessive rainfall.
