Srinagar, August 4:
More than 35 incidents of cloudburst have been reported in Jammu and Kashmir so far this year, in which about 31 people have died.
Apart from this, there has been extensive damage to houses, roads, bridges and other public infrastructure throughout the UT.
According to government data, at least 22 incidents of cloudbursts were recorded between June 1 and mid-July.
However, the second half of July and early August saw several more cloudburst incidents due to incessant heavy rains. The total number of such incidents to more than 35.
The main reasons for the deaths have been cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides due to rains, most of which have occurred in Jammu division.
The worst-affected districts include Poonch, Rajouri, Kathua, Doda and Kishtwar. These areas have suffered huge loss of life and property due to recurrent weather-related calamities.
In Kashmir, districts like Shopian and Kupwara have also witnessed several cloudbursts and flash floods in recent weeks.
