Srinagar, March 3:
The Jammu and Kashmir government has issued an order for the temporary suspension of internet services in the Kashmir Valley. This ban will be in force till 8 pm on March 4. The administration has taken this decision for security reasons and to maintain law and order.
According to the order issued, prepaid mobile internet services have been limited to 2G (maximum 128 Kbps) from 9 am on March 1 to 8 pm on March 4. Prepaid mobile services, including data, voice calls and SMS, will also be affected.
The government order said that this ban will remain in force in the entire Kashmir Valley. However, the administration is constantly reviewing the situation. Services can be restored if the situation becomes normal.
The government has said that this step has been taken in view of the recent events and possible protests and the impact on law and order after the death of Iran’s religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The administration apprehends that rumours may spread through social media and the internet, which may affect the peace and order.
This order has been issued on the recommendation of IGP Kashmir Zone. The order has been confirmed by Principal Secretary of the Home Department Chandraker Bharti. The administration has appealed to the people to maintain peace and not pay heed to rumours. Officials said that the situation is being monitored and necessary steps will be taken further if needed.
