Maharashtra, March 4:
Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi has clarified the controversy over his statement on Aurangzeb. He clarified that this was not his personal statement, but he had reacted to the Assam Chief Minister comparing Rahul Gandhi with Aurangzeb. He has said that he will withdraw his statement. At the same time, the ruling Mahayuti is strongly opposing this statement.
Abu Azmi said, this was not my statement, but I had reacted to the Assam Chief Minister comparing Rahul Gandhi with Aurangzeb. Many historians have written about Aurangzeb and I have reiterated the same facts. These books are still not banned, nor has any action been taken against these historians. Then when I have said the same things, why is so much fuss being created about this issue?
He further said, many things are being said against Muslims in the country. The more BJP leaders speak against Muslims. People sitting in the government are spreading hatred against me. I am being abused, and if something happens to me. The government will be responsible for it. Abu Azmi also said that he is taking back his statement.
While talking to the media in Mumbai, Azmi said, ‘All wrong history is being shown. Aurangzeb built many temples… Aurangzeb was not cruel.’ The SP leader had said, ‘As much as I have read about Aurangzeb.
He never took public money for himself, his rule extended to Burma (present Myanmar). On Abu Azmi’s statement, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, this will cost Abu Azmi dearly and the people of Maharashtra will not forgive him. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj are our deities… Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj won even after sacrificing and Aurangzeb lost even after winning. (Agencies)
