Leh, August 20:
40 Chinese yaks have entered the Indian territory of Dzomolung Demchok in the district. These are currently in the possession of local residents. Amid the growing tension between India and China on the Line of Actual Control (LAC), this new incident has further aggravated the situation.
Chushul councillor Konchok Stanzin has drawn attention to the issue through social media and demanded immediate action. Stanzin said, “We need a proper mechanism for the return of these yaks.”
A few years ago we also lost our yaks in Chinese territory, which have not been recovered till now. He expressed concern over this situation. The presence of these yaks has increased the long-standing disputes between India and China over border areas. Dzomolung Demchok has been a disputed area, where there are frequent reports of infiltration and clashes between the armies of the two countries.
In response to the councillor’s appeal, local officials are hoping to defuse the situation and initiate discussions in search of a solution. This situation underlines the delicacy of the border dispute and the complexities involved in managing such territorial issues.
As discussions are likely to progress, the international community will watch how the two nations address this new development. At present, neither Indian nor Chinese officials have issued any formal statement on this.
