Jammu, December 26:
The last rites of Subedar Surjit Singh, a resident of Sirla, were performed at the crematorium of his native village on Thursday. A crowd of people gathered for the last journey of the Subedar.
People started coming to the house of the martyred Subedar since morning.
Earlier on Wednesday evening, the mortal remains of Subedar Surjit Singh reached his house. After which the atmosphere of the village was gloomy. People came to console their families.
On Thursday morning, officers and soldiers of the Sikh Regiment attended the funeral procession. Subedar Surjit Singh was cremated by his 13-year-old son Suryansh Singh. The army personnel who came to the spot gave him a guard of honor. The wife of the martyred Subedar was in a bad condition crying, which was handled by other members of the family.
Several public representatives along with the local people of the village attended the funeral of the Subedar. Significantly, after a dispute over chart duty, an army soldier had fired at him.
