Jammu, November 14:
Along with the Bihar elections, the results of the Jammu and Kashmir by-elections were also declared on Friday. The PDP captured the Budgam seat and the BJP emerged victorious in Nagrota.
The bypoll results have dealt a major blow to the ruling party, especially Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The National Conference lost both the seats. While the PDP and the BJP are celebrating the victory.
There is disappointment in the ruling party’s camp from Jammu to Kashmir.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has retained the Nagrota assembly seat in Jammu.
30-year-old Devyani Rana won with a lead of 24,647 votes. Devyani Rana, who was leading from the start, secured 42,350 votes.
She defeated Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party candidate Harsh Dev Singh, who got 17,703 votes.
NC’s Shamim Begum came third with 10,872 votes.
In Budgam, PDP candidate Agha Syed Muntazir Mehdi won by a margin of 4,478 votes against 21,576 votes. NC candidate Agha Syed Mahmood got 17,098 votes. BJP candidate Agha Syed Mohsin got 2,619 votes.
In Nagrota, Devyani Rana has carried forward the legacy of late father and senior party leader Devinder Singh Rana.
In Budgam, Ruhullah was upset as well as resentment towards Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s style of functioning. Omar didn’t even try to persuade them and Ruhullah distanced himself from the area and moved to Germany.
The NC’s crushing defeat in Asarnagarota will also affect the political aspirations of Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary. He was seen in the election fray of Nagrota from the beginning. He was in the headlines due to his frequent aggressive campaigning and his political rhetoric. His aggressive strategy also could not win the NC candidate.
