Jammu, April 6:
Retired army officers and jawans from the border villages of the district have appealed to the government that if they are provided with weapons.
They are ready to fight the terrorists. Retired army officials said that the Pakistani army is infiltrating anti-national elements through the border to spread unrest in Jammu and Kashmir. They said, whenever we get information that army officers and jawans are being martyred in encounters, our blood boils.
Retired soldiers told that earlier in rural areas, people were given weapons by the police and firing training was given. People used to protect their own villages. When terrorist incidents started increasing, the police formed village security committees.
The retired soldiers demanded that on the lines of the rural security guards formed by the central government, they should also be given arms licenses so that they can ensure security in their respective areas. He said that army personnel are already trained. Those who have given their arms licenses for renewal are getting them renewed. Currently, new licenses are not being made.
