The increasing trend of drug addiction in society is becoming fatal. Young people are dying in cases of drug overdose. The risk of drug reaction in such victims reaching hospitals has also increased due to the lack of complete information about their history by their caretakers. Every month 10 to 15 cases of drug overdose are reaching the ICU of GMC Jammu.
Of these, young people in the age group of 17 to 30 years are more affected. Heroin addiction has increased among the young. Many people have been found dead under suspicious circumstances from various areas of the city, who are suspected to have died of drug overdose. Attendants should give complete information about the victim’s history: HOD: According to Dr. Anita Vij, HOD of Anesthesia Department of GMC, in cases of drug overdose, not giving complete information about the victim by the attendants often creates problems in treatment.
In such cases, the risk of drug reaction in the victim is high. If the doctor already knows about the drug addiction, he can give better treatment accordingly. Caretakers should give complete information about the history of their patient. In such cases, many times the victim suffers from hepatitis, HIV etc., which also poses a risk to the medical staff.
