CT 2025: Varun Chakraborty was not the first choice for the Champions Trophy, got the chance at the last moment; proved to be a trump card

New Delhi, March 10:
Including Varun Chakravarthy in the Indian team for the Champions Trophy proved to be a masterstroke. India won the Champions Trophy title by defeating New Zealand on Sunday. Varun played an important role. This is the same Varun who was initially not included in the 15-member team for this tournament. But at the last moment India made a change and gave Varun a place.
How useful Varun proved to be for India in the Champions Trophy. He was the highest wicket taker for the country in the tournament. Varun took nine wickets in three matches and finished second after New Zealand’s Matt Henry in the race for the Golden Ball. Apart from Varun, fast bowler Mohammed Shami also took the same number of wickets.
Varun did not play in the first two matches and got a chance against New Zealand. Varun got a chance to play in place of Harshit Rana in the last match of the group stage of the Champions Trophy against New Zealand. Varun took five wickets in the very first match and played an important role in helping India successfully defend the target of 250 runs. (Agencies)
