Srinagar, July 24:
Flash floods triggered by a cloudburst in the Mayan region of Jammu and Kashmir caused massive destruction. Due to the strong current, the Ghoretal drain changed its course. Due to which many houses in Mukampuran village were surrounded by water. The people living there were completely trapped.
The debris that came with the flooding also blocked the roads leading to the village, cutting off the affected families from the outside world. As the situation deteriorated, the Indian Army immediately launched relief and rescue operations.
As soon as the water level receded and the intensity of the flow receded, the Army personnel took the risk to evacuate the stranded villagers, especially the elderly. All the people were evacuated from their homes and shifted to safer places in the main village.
There was no loss of life due to this prompt action of the Army. The local people appreciated the readiness and courage of the Army in difficult times and expressed gratitude to the troops.
The administration and concerned agencies are constantly monitoring the situation in the affected area. Damage assessment is being done and relief and rehabilitation operations are underway.
