Srinagar, July 19:
A cloudburst occurred in Gurez valley of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Sunday morning, police said. Along with this, due to continuous heavy rains in different parts of the district. The water level of rivers, streams and mountain streams has increased rapidly. In view of the possible flash flood, the administration has increased vigilance.
According to officials, a sudden cloudburst in the upper reaches of Gurez valley on Sunday morning led to a rapid rise in the flow of water in local streams. Although there is no report of any loss of life or property at the moment, the administration is constantly monitoring the situation.
Due to heavy rains, the water level of many drains and mountain streams in Bandipora district suddenly increased. This has created a risk of flash floods in low-lying areas. The administration has increased surveillance in sensitive areas and appealed to the people to remain vigilant.
The revenue department and relief and rescue teams have been put on alert as a precautionary measure. Officials said that the affected areas are being surveyed and possible damage is being assessed. If the situation worsens, immediate relief and rescue operations will be initiated.
Incessant rains led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas of the Kashmir Valley, affecting normal life and traffic. In many places, people faced problems in commuting due to flooding of roads.
The administration has advised people living on the banks of rivers, streams and streams to be cautious and avoid unnecessary travel till the weather becomes normal. Also, people have been appealed to rely only on official information and inform the administration immediately in case of any emergency.
