Srinagar, July 14:
The death toll in the road accident in Kanihama in central Kashmir’s Magam area on July 9 rose to two on Tuesday, officials said. A lecturer injured in the accident died during treatment at the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura. The deceased has been identified as Shabbir Ahmad Dar, a chemistry lecturer from Gofbal Kunjar in Tangmarg. He suffered serious injuries in the accident and was undergoing treatment at SKIMS since then.
Earlier, physics lecturer Manzoor Ahmad Malik, a resident of Rawatpora in Tangmarg, was also killed in the accident. Officials said the two lecturers were working in the education department and were from the Gulmarg constituency. His death has sparked a wave of mourning in the teaching community and their localities.
Expressing deep grief over the tragic death of the two teachers, Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakina Ittoo expressed her condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls.
Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma also expressed grief over the death of the two lecturers. He wrote on ‘X’ that he is deeply saddened by the tragic death of Education Department lecturers Manzoor Ahmad Malik and Shabbir Ahmad Dar in the Magam accident. Heartfelt condolences to their families. May the departed souls rest in peace and may their loved ones find strength in this difficult time.
