Jammu, August 2:
The Baba Amarnath Yatra resumed from Jammu after the opening of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. On Sunday morning, the 25th batch of 3886 pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp for Baltal.
The pilgrims were sent off in a convoy of 177 vehicles at 2:52 am on Sunday. Over 4.55 lakh pilgrims have so far visited the cave shrine during the 57-day Amarnath Yatra that began on July 3. The yatra will conclude on August 28.
The journey from Jammu was suspended on Saturday due to landslides at several places on the national highway up to Banihal in Ramban due to incessant rains. However, repair work is still going on.
For the time being, light vehicles have been allowed to move from Jammu to Srinagar, the administration said. Baba Amarnath Yatra from Pahalgam route is currently closed. The route is being repaired. The process of decreasing the number of devotees has continued.
