The incidence of cloudburst is increasing continuously in the states of North India. The movement of clouds is changing due to climate change, rising mercury and other reasons. Due to continuous deforestation in hilly areas, cloudburst is causing huge destruction.
Its effect is visible on the land along with the mountains. According to experts, the continuous reduction of greenery in the name of development and increasing pollution will further increase weather-related challenges in the future. The data of the last 13 years (2010 to 2022) of the Meteorological Center Srinagar. There have been 168 incidents of flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir. That is, an average of 13 incidents of cloudburst are occurring every year and these are increasing continuously. Most of its effect is seen during the monsoon in the hilly areas.
Kishtwar, Anantnag, Ganderbal and Doda districts have been most affected by flash floods during these years, while districts Jammu, Srinagar, Anantnag and Kathua have been in the heavy rainfall category. Rainfall in the range of 100 to 200 mm has been recorded in these areas.
Even in the hilly areas, the continuous cutting of forests is not able to reduce the pressure and speed of sudden heavy rains, due to which the scenes of devastation are increasing in the lower plains. In this monsoon, incidents of cloudburst have caused a lot of devastation in the neighboring states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand etc.
