Demanding a judicial enquiry into the Power crises situation at a time when Jammu is reeling under intense heat of more than 40 degrees, Sh. Deepak Gupta, President Traders Federation Ware House-Nehru Market(Regd.) Jammu on Monday questioned the spending of thousands of crores of rupees of taxpayers on the power infra in the JKUT which has brought no relief to a common man.
An urgent meeting was held at the Federation office under the presentialship of Sh. Deepak Gupta, along with the office bearers in which Sh. Deepak Gupta has voiced his great resentment over the power crisis in Jammu. He said that the Centre Government in 2018 released Rs 8,000 crore to boost the power sector in the erstwhile J&K State. Gupta questions where this money went which was supposed to be used for augmentation of the power infrastructure in the coming years because the situation is worsen than improved. “Why they failed to harness the vast hydel power potential which the UT has despite spending thousands of crores in the name or execution of power projects.” He questioned.
In a statement issued to mercury times, he demanded a probe into why such a serious situation was allowed to emerge in Jammu when people are faced with the scorching heat of Summer.
Gupta said the scheduled and unscheduled power cuts have paralyzed the whole life as the water supply also remains hampered due to power curtailments.
He condemns the poor management and quality and reliability of purchases made for improvement of power infra in the recent years.
“The frequent power cuts and tripping has resulted in immense financial loss to the business establishments for which such a corrupt system is responsible. We are unable to generate e-way bills because of long power cuts but the Taxes department imposed heavy penalties. Who is responsible for it.” He said.
He said power supply is the basic need of the trader besides other consumers, it may affect their daily life and routine work.
He urged the Administration to ensure better supply of electricity, as people from this region are contributing in a better way towards the revenue being generated on account of electricity.
“It is very unfortunate that when people of Jammu needed Health facilities during the second wave of Covid-19, they Didn’t get it and now when people need Electricity, they have to face long power cuts. We are unable to understand what’s going on in JK UT.”
He questioned.
Deepak Gupta appeals to Sh. Manoj Sinha, Hon’ble LG JK UT who is known for his integrity to personally intervene and not only bring the culprits to book but also fix accountability on the highest and the lowest level so that the system is accountable.
