Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will visit Jammu and Kashmir for two days starting today for important meetings ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. There has been a slight change in their tour. Rahul Gandhi reached Srinagar in the evening.
Earlier, both the leaders were scheduled to visit Jammu first and then Srinagar. But now they will start their tour from Srinagar, AICC General Secretary Ghulam Ahmed Mir has given this information. In Srinagar, Mir said that both the leaders will hold meetings with party leaders and workers in 10 districts of Kashmir Valley in Srinagar on Thursday. After the talks in Srinagar, they will address a workers’ conference in Jammu at 2.30 pm. Then they will fly to Delhi in the evening.
He will take complete information about the ground level preparations for the elections. Rahul Gandhi’s tour was changed because Congress does not want to affect the Bharat Bandh. Sources claim that Rahul Gandhi may also have a meeting with National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah.
The party hopes that the path of alliance can be cleared in the meeting. Elections for the 90-member Jammu and Kashmir Assembly will be held in three phases on September 18, September 25 and October 1.
