Transporters of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir have decided to postpone the proposed state-wide indefinite strike of March 10 till March 20. On Sunday, Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor and the transporters met jointly. He also asked the consultant to increase passenger fares. The consultant, listening carefully to the transporter’s demands, assured that an increase in passenger fares would be considered in April, while effective steps would be taken to meet other demands at the earliest. It is noteworthy that transporters apply transport subsidy scheme including withdrawal of order of 9% tax on new vehicles, old vehicles, waiving passenger tax, traffic, executive police arbitrariness, increasing passenger fares or removing toll plazas.
