Jammu, August 23:
There is good news for people who travel by air. Aviation companies can start direct flights from Jammu to five major cities of the country during the winter season. These cities include Lucknow, Bangalore, Hisar, Hyderabad and Jaipur. Currently there are no direct flights from Jammu to these cities.
The airlines believe that if sufficient number of passengers are available, then flights to these cities can be operated on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. However, the timetable for these flights has not been decided yet. At present, 36 flights are being operated daily from Jammu Airport.
If five cities are added to the winter schedule, the number of flights will increase to more than 40. This will greatly benefit the devotees visiting Vaishno Devi. An MoU has also been signed with Alliance Air Aviation Limited for direct flights between Maharaja Agrasen Airport in Hisar, Haryana and Jammu.
Air services can be started for these five cities in the winter schedule. Aviation companies have expressed their interest. The facility can be started only after getting approval from the authority.
