Jammu, November 4:
On the very first day of the Darbar Move, vehicles were seen crawling on the streets of the city. Long queues of vehicles were seen on major roads like Janipur, Tawi Bridge, Dogra Chowk, Canal Road, Gandhi Nagar, Narwal Chowk and Panama Chowk since Monday morning. Those going to office and school had to be stuck in the jam for hours.
Traffic police personnel were deployed at various places. But their preparations proved inadequate in front of the number of vehicles.
Actually, due to the Darbar Move, government offices have been shifted to Jammu. For this reason, the crowd of government vehicles, private vehicles and goods trucks increased on the streets. In many places, the traffic jam was so severe that people had to go to their destinations on foot.
The biggest reason for the jam is said to be illegal vehicles parked on the roadside and encroachment by shopkeepers.
Shops have spread on the sidewalk and roadside in many areas of the city. On which claims of action are repeated, but there is no implementation. Despite joint action by the traffic police, Jammu Municipal Corporation and district administration, there has been no significant improvement in the situation. The haphazard parking of two-wheelers in Dogra Chowk and Canal Road area further affected the traffic. Small vehicles were stranded for hours due to long queues of trucks from Panama Square to Narwal.
People say that the police-administration should have made a concrete plan of traffic management before the Darbar move. Now that the offices will fully start functioning in the coming days, the traffic pressure is expected to increase further. Local citizens have demanded that illegal parking and encroachments be removed from the main roads of the city immediately so that people can get relief.
