Jammu, January 6:
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday dismissed fears of any negative impact on Jammu following the launch of a direct rail service between Kashmir and the rest of the country. Omar said his government will ensure that the region benefits immensely once the long-pending project is completed. Omar Abdullah was speaking at the virtual inauguration of the Jammu Railway Division by PM Modi.
The final trial run is scheduled for from Kashmir to Katra on Tuesday.
Two days ago we got the good news through the media that the test train reached Katra from Srinagar.
However, he said there are some concerns in Jammu about the rail service. It is often said that when the rail service came to Jammu from Pathankot. Then the situation in Pathankot became a little difficult. There is also a perception in some places here that if trains come directly from Jammu to Kashmir. Then Jammu will have to face the same situation as Pathankot had faced.
Appreciating Prime Minister Modi’s efforts to improve connectivity and road network, the Chief Minister said that the railway line under Jammu Railway Division must be extended beyond Poonch-Rajouri and Baramulla in Kashmir.
