Nominations of two covering candidates and one independent candidate were rejected during scrutiny of papers for Ladakh parliamentary constituency. The rejection left only five candidates in the fray. Voting will be held in the fifth phase in Ladakh Lok Sabha constituency on May 20.
The returning officer said that during scrutiny, nominations of two covering candidates and one independent candidate were rejected. Returning officer Santosh Sukhdev said only five candidates are left in the fray due to rejection. Ladakh Lok Sabha constituency, the country’s largest with a total area of ​​173.266 sq km and over 1.82 lakh voters, will go to polls in the fifth phase on May 20. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is 6 May.
After scrutiny, the nomination forms of five candidates were found to be valid, while the candidatures of BJP and Congress covering candidates Stanzin Lakpa and Smanla Dorje Narbu were cancelled.
Sukhdev told that the nomination of independent candidate Ghulam Nabi Zia, whose form was found incomplete, was also rejected. Of the remaining five candidates, Tashi Gyalson of BJP and Tsering Namgyal of Congress are from Leh. The three independents, Mohammad Hanifa Jan, Sajjad Hussain and Kacho Mohammad Firoz are all from Kargil.
