In its continued endeavor to provide training/practice opportunities to young theatre actors, and to offer a cultural/intellectual venue to Jammu audience, Natrang presented ‘Jayaz Hatyare-Act 1’, an Hindi adaptation from a French play ‘Les Justes’ at Natrang Studio Theatre Jammu.
In a statement issued to mercury times, the play has been adapted in Hindi by Deepa Sahi and Suresh Bhardwaj and was ably directed by Mohd. Yaseen, a National fellowship and Scholarship holder from Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. Prominent amongst those who witnessed the play included V.K. Singh IPS (Retd.), Suresh Kumar, Anil Tickoo, Sunny Dua, Vikrant Sharma, Sumeet Sharma, Sunil Soni and more.
Set in the backdrop of India of colonial times, the play narrates the story of a group of Indian ‘Inqalabi Party’ which plans to assassinate the top official of British India.
Originally, the play is based on a true story of a group of Russian Socialist-Revolutionaries who assassinated the Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich in 1905. Jayaz Hatyare is adapted from a French play titled ‘Les Justes’, The play was first published in the year 1949 written by French writer and philosopher Albert Camus, later on it had been translated in English as ‘The Just Assassins’ and then in Hindi by Suresh Bhardwaj and Deepa Sahi. The play explores the moral issues associated with murder and militancy. The adaptation is given an Indian taste and is transformed according to the Indian struggle for freedom.
The artists who performed in a play included Manoj Lalotra as Onkar, Meenakshi Bhagat as Devika, Sushant Singh Charak as Vivan, Shivam Singh as Vimi and Brijesh Avtar Sharma as Sukhen. The lights were designed by Neeraj Kant.
