Srinagar, January 16:
The minimum temperature in the Kashmir Valley was above normal on Friday.
Though it remained below zero during the night in most areas. The Meteorological Department has predicted light snowfall in the high hilly areas.
Srinagar recorded a low of minus 1.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday night, up from minus 3.9 degrees the previous day and is half a degree above the seasonal average. The coldest night temperature was recorded at minus 4.6 degrees Celsius in south Kashmir’s Pulwama. The minimum temperature in Pahalgam was minus 2.6 degrees, which was more than minus 5 degrees the previous day.
The Kashmir Valley is currently in its harshest winter period, which will start from December 21 and continue till January 30. During this period, the night temperature often drops several degrees below zero and the chances of snowfall are the highest.
The Meteorological Department said that the western disturbance is moving towards Kashmir. Under its influence, there is a possibility of light snowfall in the higher areas and light rain in the lower areas.
