Srinagar, April 4:
Two days ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, a meeting of MLAs of the ruling NC and its alliance partners began here on Friday.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and in the presence of National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, began at the residence of Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary in Gupkar here.
This unscheduled meeting of alliance partners comes against the backdrop of Lt Guv Manoj Sinha ordering the transfer and appointment of 48 JKAS officers.
The controversial transfer of 48 bureaucrats three days ago has triggered the latest confrontation between the Raj Bhawan and the Abdullah government.
The government considers the LG’s move a violation of the legal and administrative framework under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act.
The meeting of the ruling alliance comes two days ahead of the Home Minister’s visit to the Union Territory following the recent terror activities in Jammu region’s Kathua district.
Abdullah has written a letter to Sinha asking him to review the unilateral decision. He has said that the transfer and appointment of officers outside the All India Service cadre is the prerogative of the elected government.
