Jammu, August 20:
A landslide occurred on Kishtwar-Chatru-Anantnag road on Monday night. The incident happened at a place called Uppar Vaithana. Where due to heavy rains, debris and big stones suddenly fell on the road from the hill. During this, many vehicles got buried in the debris, due to which the traffic on the road was completely disrupted.
The incident took place near Khanpura, about 22 km from Kishtwar town. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the accident, but the vehicles suffered extensive damage.
Relief and rescue work is going on at the spot, while the administration has appealed to the people to avoid unnecessary travel on this route. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain in the area today as well.
In view of the incessant rains, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kishtwar has declared a holiday in all schools of the district today. Students and teachers have been asked to stay in safe places and follow the instructions of the administration.
