The preventive measures and treatment process for COVID-19 in India has been acknowledged & appreciated globally. The continuation of nationwide Phase-3 Lock Down up to May 17th, 2020, although necessary, wasn’t inclusive of many marginalized sections of the society like daily wage labourers, the homeless population, beggars, slum-dwellers, several low-income groups as well as the elderly persons who live alone. In the current circumstances every responsible citizen is helping the needy persons so is the BJP leadership and its volunteers. All this was stated by Former Deputy Chief Minister J&K, Kavinder Gupta on the sidelines of ration distribution event at Bhore camp ward-73. Gupta was accompanied by Vinay Gupta, Pitamber Sharma, Narinder Gupta, Rohin chandan, Sanket Sharma, Rohit khajuria, Sanjay kumar, Ashok kumar and Kishore Kumar to distribute ration to almost 150 needy families at Bhore camp and Shumali Mohalla.
Similar events were organized at, Nanak Nagar, Bahu for area, Channi, Shastri Nagar falling in Gandhi Nagar Constituency where Ration Kits, Atta, Rice and face Masks were distributed among families of daily wagers construction workers, Rehri wallas and some migrant labourers. Gupta said we have pledged to help administration to combat the spread of coronavirus threat and BJP and its volunteers in association with many leading business men of Jammu and other donors have taken the responsibility of providing food to the poor and needy people.
Kavinder thanked the donors of ration that was distributed said that, as we enter the lockdown 3rd phase it is becoming increasingly evident that the true challenge for such people won’t be to evade the corona virus but just to get enough food to stay alive. Most informal sector workers, who do not have any job right now and are perhaps stuck in a city where they are migrant labourers and therefore have no home, will soon not have the money to feed themselves the bare minimum required to stay alive.
Kavinder Gupta also sought urgent help and compensation & rehabilitation in terms of free ration, medicines and other essential commodities from the government for next 6 months to the families belonging to BPL, contractual/casual labour engaged by various Govt. agencies, and workers of un-organized sector.
Gupta also stressed for compensation in terms of tax holiday, cash incentives, and other benefits to the business community who have suffered huge losses due to the continuous lockdown in light of COVID-19 pandemic.
Gupta said although the UT administration under overall supervision of Union Govt. functionaries are letting no stone unturned to reach out to the vulnerable section of society , we the common citizens, civic bodies, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) as well as industry leaders, to come together to help the marginalized section. So far, some NGOs, business men, Govt. Employees and trusts have shown great enterprise and tried to ease the distress of marginalized individuals during the lockdown, but we need to understand the situation and every privileged person should come forward for the noble cause, appealed Gupta. He also appealed to the public to adopt at least one family in the neighborhood who are under deprived and can’t afford food and other essentials.
