The last rites of six people including two children who died in a fire at the house of retired DSP Kewal Krishan were performed in Purmandal, Jammu on Thursday. When five bodies were taken out from Shaheedi Chowk in the city, everyone’s eyes became moist. The entire city turned out to bid farewell to Avtar Krishan Raina and his family members. The market remained closed in mourning. Kewal Krishan’s grandson Advik was bid farewell by his father from his house.
The family was Kashmiri Pandit and in Pandit families, the last rites of bachelors are performed in the Jammu-based Paramandal. It is believed that there is no need to collect the ashes after the last rites here. On Thursday, before the last rites, the bodies were brought from GMC Kathua to the house located at Shaheedi Chowk. As soon as the bodies arrived, tears started flowing from every eye present there.
Swarana Raina was in a bad state after seeing the bodies of her children. Neetu Devi, who lost two children, was fainting repeatedly. Her heart was breaking after listening to the wailing of women. The helpless family members kept asking who will support them now. When the bodies were taken out, the only thing that came out of the mouths of the people of the city was that God should not show this day to anyone.
