Colonel Sonam Wangchuk, a brave warrior of the Kargil war, died suddenly in Leh on Friday morning.
The news of his death has sent shockwaves across the country, including the entire Ladakh region.
He was a brave military officer awarded the Maha Vir Chakra.
Colonel Wangchuk played a key role as a Major in the Ladakh Scouts during the 1999 Kargil War. He led an adventurous expedition in the Chorbat La area of Batalik sector at an altitude of 18,000 feet. Regaining a significant peak from the enemy. It counts among the early and decisive successes of Operation Vijay.
For his bravery and leadership, he was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, the second highest gallantry award in the country.
