J&K Budget 2025: Now the poor will get 10 kg more free ration, 1.5 lakh families will get benefit

Jammu, March 8:

The Omar Abdullah government will provide 10 kg free ration to poor families. 1.5 lakh families will benefit from this. There are about 5.5 lakh members in these families. Under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana, these families are already getting 35 kg ration from the central government. That means now these families will get 45 kg free ration. This arrangement will increase the additional burden of 120 crores on the state treasury.

Under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana, 35 kg ration is given according to the geographical conditions and choice of the state. For example, 15 kg wheat and 20 kg rice are given in Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajori and Ramban. Whereas, 30 kg wheat and 5 kg rice are given in Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, Reasi and other districts. The increase of 10 kg ration will be a big relief especially for the poor families living in hilly areas.
