Srinagar, February 3:
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will interrogate former MLA engineer Sheikh Abdul Rashid regarding the connection with Hizbul Mujahideen commander Navid Babu. Naveed Babu is the same terrorist who was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police along with former DSP Davinder Singh. Naveed claimed that he was in contact with Rashid. Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) leader Engineer Rashid, a former MLA, hails from Langet in North Kashmir. He contested and won from Langet assembly constituency in 2014 as an independent candidate. Engineer Rashid is already in judicial custody in the Terror Funding case. The NIA took engineer Rashid to judicial investigation on August 9. He is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.
Sources say that Engineer Rashid will be brought to Jammu soon to inquire in this regard. The NIA will soon approach the court seeking a production warrant in this regard. It has also been learned that the detained Navid Babu has given many more important information related to engineer Rashid. Terrorist Naveed alias Babu’s full name is Syed Naveed Mushtaq Ahmed and was arrested by the NIA on February 6 along with former DSP Devendra Singh. It is currently in NIA custody till 6 February. On 11 January 2020, DSP Devinder Singh was arrested by Hizb terrorists Naveed Mushtaf and Rafi Ahmed and Lashkar’s overground worker Irfan Rather in South Kulgam. At that time DSP Devinder Singh was engaged in transporting these three to Jammu in a car. After spending a few days in Jammu, terrorist Naveed was to cross the border to Pakistan. On the basis of this inquiry, the NIA has conducted raids elsewhere in Jammu and Kashmir. It is being told that the team has received many important documents in these raids.
