Jammu, August 20:
Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta on Friday condemned the atrocities committed on women, children and minorities by the Taliban regime in Afghanistan which took over reins of the country recently.
In a statement issued to mercury times, the senior BJP leader decried the so called religious militia group Taliban which is committing atrocities in Afghanistan as it is hell-bent to implement the patriarchal and highly ‘discriminatory’ Shariah Law. He said Shariah leaves considerable room for interpretation and that is the reason that it barred women from working outside the home or leaving the house without a male guardian, eliminating schooling for girls, and publicly flogging people who violated the group’s morality code.
Kavinder said that already videos coming from Afghanistan are speaking louder than words that hell has befallen on women, children and those belonging to religions other than Islam. He said that living under such regime is worse than experiencing death and such rudimentary form of government should not be allowed to function anywhere in the world.
“Though Taliban has assured in the presser few days back that it will allow the women folk to study and work but the viral videos are telling a different story as the Taliban insurgents have not yet said how they intend to apply Shariah this time. It is for sure the biggest nightmare for the millions of Afghan women who are about to face the most horrendous time under the regime of lawless and heartless militants who have a track record of numerous killings of women in full public view over the petty issues which in the civilized societies across the world are part of normal lifestyle”, he said and demanded that countries including India should join hands and mount pressure on the ruthless regime of Afghanistan not to indulge in gruesome acts against the women.
