With the arrival of monsoon in Jammu and Kashmir, the risk of mosquito-borne diseases has increased.
In view of diseases like dengue and chikungunya, the Health and Medical Education Department has implemented a comprehensive system of prevention, surveillance and treatment in the entire state.
According to the report of the Health Department, 5,850 suspected cases of dengue have been investigated since January.
Of these, infection has been confirmed in 62 patients. It is a matter of relief that no death due to dengue has been recorded during this period.
State Malaria Specialist and Deputy Director (Headquarters) Dr. Harbaksh Singh said that this year, the campaign against dengue and chikungunya has been made more extensive than before.
Only 4 cases of dengue have been confirmed this week. Various mediums like radio, television, social media, local newspapers and etc are being used to make the general public aware.
He said that 12 sentinel surveillance hospitals have been activated in the state for dengue testing. In addition, adequate availability of dengue and chikungunya test kits has been ensured. Adequate stock of larvicides, fogging machines and insecticides is also available. GMC in Jammu division. Blood component labs in Jammu, Kathua, Rajouri and Gandhi Nagar hospitals have also been put on alert mode. He has appealed to the people to keep their surroundings clean, do not let water accumulate and get tested at the nearest health centre immediately if they have fever or other symptoms.
