Tonnes of garbage is being dumped along the Steam banks at Naidkhai area of Bandipora district.
The people of the Naidkhai area alleged Adminstration failed to stop this as since past week unknown vehicle during night are dumping garbage there.
The Stream flowing through Sonawari area comes from Zalpora to Naidkhai has been turned into garbage dump by the locals and Adminstration is watching it mutely.
But nowadays the space for the stream has turned into a garbage dumping site. Some 10 years back at the same place kids used to bath and swim there.
The stream was considered to be lifeline of the areas through which it was passing and is now marred by extensive pollution and has become a garbage dumping site.
From a distance stream flowing through these areas presents a scintillating look but when one approaches it he is greeted by the foul smell emanating from the heaps of garbage and filth scattered all over its banks.
Banks of this stream have been virtually turned into a dumping ground by locals and traders. Large heaps of garbage from different localities of area has been shrinking its space and making its water the source of infections and diseases.
the stream has become filthy,” said Deputy Sarpunch Fayaz Ahmed an elderly man.
While pointing towards the litter lying scattered on its banks he said, “Carcasses of animals, cow dung and waste from hotels of area and disposals of health centers are dumped into the Nallah making it filthier.”
“Even if some animal dies it is brought here and dumped into the stream in broad day light. The river has virtually turned into a garbage-dumping site mostly right near the bridge,” he added. The Irrigation and Flood Control department entrusted with conservation of this stream has been vested with executive powers to act against people polluting it. Ironically, the department has been acting as a mute spectator to this pollution.
Now People of area appealed Dc Bandipora and authorities to intervence into the issue so that Nallah Ferozpora will be saved.
