Srinagar, September 10:
Patiala House Court granted interim bail to Engineer Rashid, MP from Baramulla constituency of Jammu and Kashmir, till October 2.
Rashid had moved the court seeking interim bail to campaign in the upcoming J&K Assembly elections to be held on September 18, 25 and October 1. The bail has been granted just days before the first phase of polling in Kashmir on September 18. Rashid’s brother is contesting the elections.
Engineer Rashid is an MP from Baramulla constituency. His brother Khurshid Ahmed is contesting the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections 2024 from Langate seat in North Kashmir as an Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) candidate. Rashid has been an MLA from this seat twice before winning the Lok Sabha elections against Omar Abdullah.
Rashid has been in Delhi’s Tihar jail since 2019.
