Srinagar, February 13:
Deliverers staged a protest at Sher-e-Kashmir Park in Srinagar on Thursday demanding regularisation and minimum wages. They were accompanied by their children carrying placards with slogans written on them. The children also shouted slogans of ‘CM sahib, don’t play in our future’.
Tight security was in place outside the park since Thursday morning since the protest was announced.
Deliverers started gathering here at around 11 am. When some people tried to protest outside the park, the police took them into preventive custody. During this time, the deliverers kept shouting slogans.
After this, all of them went inside Sher-e-Kashmir Park and held a public meeting. During this time, children were seated at the front. In their hands were placards with slogans like ‘We want to read, not demonstrate’, etc.
During this, the protesters said that governments used to run earlier but why are the youth coming on the streets under Omar Abdullah’s government. He should take note of it. Thousands of people have already lost temporary jobs, now we don’t want our younger generation to be ruined either.
Our only request to the Chief Minister is to resolve our issues. We are fed up a lot. If the Chief Minister has announced the regularization policy of the employees.
Then make it clear what this policy is, so that the matter is clear in front of us and our doubts can be cleared.
The government should first clarify whether this policy is only a salary increase or a matter of implementing fixed pay. Will this policy also give all the benefits that other government employees get? What will happen to those who have already retired or are about to be?
