District Gurdwara Committee Jammu has expressed its serious concern over the recent total neglect of our mother tongue Punjabi in J&K and has decided to launch a united campaign for the implementation and promotion of Punjabi language at all levels in Sikh community and other Punjabi loving people of J&K.
S. Jagjit Singh president DGPC and S. Fateh Singh General Secretary DGPC while addressing a joint press conference along with office bearers and members of DGPC Jammu including Jathedar Mohinder Singh, S. Avtar Singh Khalsa, S Manmohan Singh Khalsa, S. Ramneek Singh, S. Kuldeep Singh, & S. Mohinder Singh Akhnoor, today strongly condemned the discriminative attitude of Central Government, that despite large scale peaceful protest by sikh community and other Punjabi loving people not only from every corner of J&K but also from SGPC Amritsar, Shiromani Akali Dal, & many other prominent Sikh leaders and intellectuals from Punjab, Delhi & elsewhere.
Office bearers and members of DGPC Jammu said that blatant exclusion of Punjabi language from recent J&K official languages act has badly hurt the sentiments of entire sikh community and Punjabi loving people in J&K and consequently a strong resentment is brewing in the mind of entire community and particularly our young generation.
DGPC Jammu said that we are unable to understand that what criteria are any feedback has been applied to kill our mother tongue in the absence of any democratic government in J&K and said now entire sikh community will jointly launch an awareness campaign about this discrimination.
DGPC Jammu disclosed that after proper consultations and obtaining opinion of all the sikh organizations in Jammu, particularly our youths we have decided to chalk out some joint strategy for initiating a strong campaign on ground for the promotion and implementation of Punjabi language in our houses and all aspects of life and we will start it from Jammu district and hope that it will spread in every district of J&K.
DGPC Jammu also disclosed that soon we are going to meet the LG of J&K under the leadership of S. Tarlochan Singh Wazir Chairman J&K Gurdwara Parbandhak Board to present a detail memorandum & to lodge strong protest for exclusion of Punjabi language in J&K.
Lastly DGPC Jammu strongly condemned the beating & disrespect to turban of one S. Balvinder Singh by Police in West Bengal & have urged Chief Minister of West Bengal to intervene and take strict action against the barbaric police officials involved.
