Jammu, December 17:
Two important projects from the road safety point of view are victims of delay. These include the state-of-the-art Driving Training and Research Institute (IDTR) being built in Kot Bhalwal and the Inspection and Certification Center (I&CC) in Samba. Work on these projects has been going on for more than five years. But the construction has not been completed yet. Meanwhile, three Principal Secretaries and three Transport Commissioners have been changed in the Transport Department.
The Inspection and Certification Center (I&CC) is being built in Samba district. The construction of this mega project started in 2019 when its cost was Rs 9.82 crore. Due to non-completion of construction work on time, its cost has increased to Rs 14 crore. The Transport Department is now claiming that I&CC will be fully operational in March-April. Transport Minister Satish Sharma visited I&CC on Monday and reviewed the construction work.
A few days ago, the Transport Commissioner had visited I&C. The construction work of IDTR in Kot Bhalawal started at a cost of Rs 17 crore. Earlier, the responsibility of construction work was handed over to JKPCC. But after the slow pace of work, the construction has been given to the R&B department. Construction of six tracks is going on in IDTR. Four tracks are for four-wheelers while one track is for two-wheelers, which is claimed to be completed in December 2024.
Minister visited, directed to complete the work on time Transport Minister Satish Sharma on Monday visited the I&CC Samba located at Samba. He reviewed the progress of the projects, which will be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 14 crore and will be operational by March-April, 2025.
