Srinagar, July 21:
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has said that the restoration of statehood to the Union Territory is the most important step towards restoring special status in future.
He said that without statehood, special status has no real value.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, the chief minister said the National Conference (NC) would continue to remind the central government of its promise to restore the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed hope that the central government will definitely fulfill its promise.
The protest in Delhi demanding restoration of statehood is only the beginning and not the end of the campaign. The party will decide on a new strategy and programme on this issue in the coming days.
He also said that the resolution related to special status was passed in the very first session of the Assembly after the formation of the government and it is still in effect today.
Omar Abdullah assured the people of J&K that the NC will live up to all its promises. It will continue to fight in a democratic manner for the restoration of the rights of the state.
