Jammu, September 12:
Instead of waiting for the dilapidated school buildings in Jammu and Kashmir to collapse, the education department will now demolish them itself. The department is going to identify schools which have been badly damaged due to the current rains.
Apart from constructing a new building, a ground or park will be constructed on that vacant space. The education department has received a letter from the education ministry in this regard. In which it has been asked to take this big step keeping in mind the safety of the children.
Directorate of Education Jammu had also started the safety audit of school buildings. In the middle of this audit, torrential rains and landslides started in the state.
The school buildings have suffered a lot of damage. This is the reason why even after almost 20 days have passed, the government schools in the state have not been able to open for children.
In a letter written by the Ministry of Education, it has been said that keeping in view the safety of children, the guidelines of National Disaster Management should be strictly followed.
The ministry has given instructions to identify dilapidated schools. It has also decided on repairs or demolition, and make alternative arrangements for children studying in demolished buildings.
According to some officials, the condition of structures in most government schools is not good.
