Jammu, July 15:
All the BJP MLAs staged a sit-in protest for two hours and raised slogans against the government. The MLAs called the state government’s order an open injustice and regional discrimination against the youth of Jammu. The protest was led by Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma.
The Leader of Opposition said that this is not just a matter of language, it is a question of rights, opportunities and equal treatment. Urdu is an official language in Jammu and Kashmir, but not the only one. When many languages are recognised in the Constitution, why was only Urdu made compulsory?
He said that BJP has already tried democratic and peaceful methods regarding this decision. We have conveyed our views to the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister, submitted memorandums and arranged delegations, but no concrete action has been taken.
LG admitted that this matter comes under the jurisdiction of the state government. If the state government remains deaf on this issue, then BJP will protest from the road to the House.
Other MLAs including BJP leaders Yudhvir Sethi, Arvind Gupta and RS Pathania also termed this order as dictatorial and said that it is against the basic spirit of the Constitution.
