Jammu, November 17:
Today S Balvinder Singh Social Activist met Dr Shashi Sudan Principal Govt Medical College Jammu and submitted number of suggestions, in presence of Dr Dara Singh Suprintendent GMC, Sh Nagendra Singh Jamwal Administrator Associated Hospitals, S Balvinder Singh Pvt Secretary To Principal GMC & S Sharanjit Singh Social Activist, for favourable consideration of Principal for improving and providing better patient care facilities in the premier health Institution of Jammu.
Singh said in the representation that there are many lacunae/deficiencies which need to be rectified for the betterment of the derailed institution, so that this divisional medical college serves the purpose since this is the referral medical college hospitals for the people belonging to Jammu division. So far unsatisfied patients leave this medical college and get treated at Nursing homes at Pathankote, Ludhiana, Jullundar and other towns of adjoining states. This trend needs to be stopped by stream lining the system.
Balvinder laid stress on regular attendance of the employees esp. faculty by FACE RECOGNITIION as desired by honourable LG also. Punctuality in OPD with a record of patients examined by each consultant /each room of OPD, so that more patients go satisfied. GMC is the premier institute to generate MBBS and specialist doctors and it depends on the teaching by the dedicated faculty to produce good doctors for the society. So much stress should be laid on regular theory and practical/clinical classes by the senior faculty, and record there of, since students do talk of unsatisfactory teaching. Revival of roster of consultants visiting the emergency between 6-10 PM as in the past, to supervise / help the residents during evening hours. Maintain record of each consultant doing surgeries in a week, since people do complain of long dates for procedures. End of market prescription of medicines esp antibiotic salt, which is available in hospital supply. Singh said that GMC is having a well equipped lab but even then most of the patients are sent outside GMC for different tests and thereby caused unnecessary financial burden on the poor patients. put forth some more important suggestion and urged upon the Hospital administration to display the list of Tests available in the Hospital : So for the benefits of patients he asked the Principal to display the list of tests done in GMC along with rates and time of the test. Singh also urged to make round the clock availability of tests such as RAT, HIV and hepatitis screening in GMC.
Activist further stated in the representation to Principal to Aarrange skilled/trained staff for handling AMBU Bag (Artificial Manual breathing Unit), it should not be handed over to the attendents of the patients to handle it and that too for one/two or three days, as has been continously doing in GMC since long. Which is not only unethical but criminal negligence on part of Hospital Administration especially the Anesthesia department. Get detail of all machines/tools required by every HOD’s like bone drilling machine, which as on date patients are asked to brought on rent from the market.
Balvinder also urged upon the principal GMC that some time back junior consultants were selected/posted in medical college hospital emergency. They seem to have been absorbed into the main departmental faculty. Such consultants may be posted back to facilitate the purpose of their selection /posting in emergency.
I hope that your good self shall defintely consider my above given suggestions to raise the teaching and service standard of the institution by many more measures than enumerated by me as grass root social worker.
