Jammu, December 12:
National Conference chief and MP Farooq Abdullah, when asked about the Supreme Court’s decision on abrogation of Article 370, said that let Jammu and Kashmir go to hell. BJP cheated the people and BJP has been talking about winning the hearts of people, but if it keeps doing such things to push people away, how can anyone’s hearts be won.
Farooq Abdullah said that he wants assembly elections to be held in Jammu and Kashmir soon. He also said that India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was not responsible for Article 370. Earlier in Parliament, Home Minister Amit Shah had blamed former PM Nehru for the Kashmir problem.
Abdullah said, ‘I don’t know why they (BJP) have venom against Nehru in their mind. Nehru is not responsible. When Article 370 came, Sardar Patel was there. Nehru was in America when the cabinet meeting took place. When the decision was taken, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was also present.
The Supreme Court on Monday unanimously upheld its 2019 decision to abrogate the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution. The Supreme Court also directed to hold assembly elections in the state by the end of September 2024.
When asked whether this decision has brought development in Jammu and Kashmir. He said go there and see for yourself. He said, ‘We want elections to be held. We were hoping that if the Supreme Court removes (Article) 370, they will also ask for immediate elections. They gave time till September, what does this mean? where is the justice?’
When asked about India’s claim on Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, he said, ‘This decision has to be taken by the government. We have never stopped anyone…we are nothing.
