Jammu, November 20:
Two people riding a scooter were killed in a collision between a speeding Thar (JK11G3000) and a scooter (JK02AH8446) on the Jammu-Rajouri Highway. under Kanachak police station on Wednesday evening.
Both of them were neighbours and were going from Thati area to their village Guda Patan. The deceased have been identified as Ashok Kumar (60) son of Kesar and Tarsem Lal (46) son of Chunnilal, residents of Guda Patan. The bodies have been kept in the hospital mortuary and will be handed over to the family after post-mortem.
The accident occurred around 6:30 pm near Guda Patan when a speeding Thar going from Jammu to Rajouri hit a scooter coming from the service lane on the main highway.
The collision was so severe that both scooter riders fell to the road and were seriously injured. The injured were immediately transported to the Sub-District Hospital, Akhnoor, where doctors declared them dead.
Kanachak Police Station in-charge Manoj Dhar said that both the Thar and the scooter were seized after the accident. Preliminary investigations suggest that speeding appears to be the primary cause of the accident.
Police are investigating all aspects of the incident, including the driver’s role, the condition of the vehicle, and eyewitness accounts. Meanwhile, this tragic accident in the Guda Patan area has caused grief and outrage among locals. People have demanded effective control and monitoring of speeding vehicles on the highway.
